Position: Bartender


Classification: Full Time/ Part Time/Seasonal, based on events throughout the year


Reports to: Food & Beverage Director


Job Summary: The Bartending staff will prepare, pour and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.  Requires knowledge of all aspects of mixology including food/wine pairings and wine presentation. Bartenders will perform premium service for Members and their guests of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, abiding by the service standards of the club. The Bartending staff will also be expected to go above and beyond to deliver memorable events, while bringing a high level of energy and professionalism. 

Job Duties:

  • Exceed the expectations of our Members and their guests, while representing the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club to the highest standards
  • Inspects the bar prior to opening to ensure that adequate supplies are available
  • Maintains records of liquors, beers and wine to ensure bar stock is maintained at all times
  • Prepares garnishes, fruit mixes and pre-mixed drinks prior to opening bar
  • Collects checks and payments for drinks served
  • Carefully follows all laws and club policies and procedures regarding alcoholic beverage service and informs manager if continued service to a member or guest is in question
  • Continually practices beverage and revenue control procedures
  • Cleans bar and completes other pre-closing requirements
  • Continually seek to enhance knowledge and skills related to service
  • Maintain self-awareness of Members, Management and Support Staff

Experience and Certifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 2 + years Bartending in a fine dining environment preferred
  • TIPS certification or in the process of certifying

Job Competencies:

  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to read and understand Banquet Event Orders (BEOs)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team environment
  • Skilled at slowing and refusing alcoholic beverage service when necessary
  • Complies with basic safety and sanitation requirements
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs
  • Availability on nights, weekends, and holidays

Working Conditions: Work will generally be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Temperatures can range from 32 F to 100+ F and there may be exposure to loud noises and sustained elements. Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, stretch and reach. Working schedule is up to 40 hours per week, with some holidays, nights and weekends.
